At Virginia Total Sleep, we know that you simply need a good night’s rest. Our easy non-surgical solutions for sleep apnea make that happen – without the need for bulky equipment – and most patients only need a single visit.

The first step is to book your appointment. We’ll ask some preliminary questions, and process all of your insurance and payment information. Virginia Total Sleep accepts most major medical insurances. During your visit, we’ll conduct a comprehensive sleep examination, including your symptoms and medical history. We’ll discuss possible lifestyle changes that can improve your ability to sleep, and offer some possible solutions.

Next, we’ll conduct a non-invasive 3D scan of your jaw and mouth. We can use this scan to pinpoint the areas that may be causing your Obstructive Sleep Apnea (the most common form of sleep apnea), and it will help to guide our treatment decisions.

3D dental scans means there is no need for the goopy impression material. Our recommendation will be custom tailored to your individual case and needs.

You may be a candidate for our non-invasive laser treatment. Using a medical grade laser, we can gently tighten the problem areas of your palate. This is a non-ablative laser, meaning it simply warms the collegen layer under the skin with minimal side effects or recovery time. These soft tissues are the ones collapsing while you sleep, causing snoring, shortness of breath, and sleep apnea. The procedure is completed in office in only 5-10 minutes, and most patients see immediate relief. During the treatment, you may experience a sensation of soft heat, but there is no burning or scarring, and most patients experience only mild irritation that disappears within 24 hours. You will likely need to repeat this procedure on an annual basis, but many report relief lasting as long as 15 months.

The second treatment option is a custom dental appliance. Using the 3D scan of your mouth, we can create a comfortable dental appliance – much like a retainer – in the exact shape of your teeth and molded to fit your mouth. The appliance is simple to use – just slide it into place. Daily cleaning is simpler than brushing and flossing. We use the latest technology and highest quality devices to ensure you have a comfortable, durable appliance that works.

The dental appliance keeps your airway open as you sleep, preventing the airway collapse that causes sleep apnea. There’s nothing to plug in, it’s comfortable to wear, and simple to use. Most patients experience immediate relief, and any questions can be addressed in a video visit, eliminating your need for an in-person trip to our office.

Both of these treatments are non-invasive, there’s no recovery time, and they’re likely covered by your insurance provider.

We just want you to get a good night’s sleep.
